The Moscow State Academy of Choreography in Russia is the oldest and one of the most prestigious schools of art of ballet in the world. Its history starts since Dec 23rd, 1773 when Catherine the Great, a great patron of the arts, started the ballet school at a Moscow Orphanage.
The Rector of the Moscow State Academy of Choreography is the People's Artist of Russia, an alumni of the Bolshoi Ballet Academy Prof. Marina Leonova.
Today the alumni of the Academy are heads of leading ballet troupes in Russia and all over the world: S. Filin (State Academic Bolshoi Theater, Moscow), К.Ivanov (Mariyskiy State Theater, Opera and Ballet), S. Bobov (Krasnoyarskiy State Theater, Opera and Ballet), К. Uralskiy (Astrahaskiy State Theater, Opera and Ballet), А. Ratmanskiy (New York), R. Bapov, Posohov (San Francisco), V. Malahov (Berlin), V. Derevyanko (Florence), А. Klemm (Paris), N. Ananiashvili (Tbilisi). The Rector of the Academy of Russian Ballet "A. Vaganova" is also a renowned alumni - Mr. N. Tsiskaridze.
